This review is written by me, who played Resident Evil RE:4, which was released on March 24, 2023, on a gaming laptop and completed the game in 15 hours.

By the way, I have also played the original Biohazard 4, and have summarized some of the differences between the two games.

What is Resident Evil RE:4?

Resident Evil RE:4 is a remake of Resident Evil 4, which was released by Capcom in 2005, with significantly improved graphics and some changes to the game system.

In recent years, Resident Evil titles have been sold in two versions, the normal version and the grotesque version. This RE:4 has a CERO rating of Z (cannot be sold to those under 18), so essentially only the Grotesque version is available for sale.

It is believed that the Z rating was given because, due to development reasons and improved graphics, the death scenes of characters have become more grotesque.

The distribution platforms are PS4, PS5, XBOX Series X/S, and Steam, and the price is approximately 8,000 yen.

About my playing environment

The recommended PC environment for this game is
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit required)/Windows 11 (64-bit required)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel Core i7 8700
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
It becomes.

I played the game on a gaming laptop called "UL7C-R37" from the PC brand GALLERIA.

While playing, the fan spins at high speed and makes a lot of noise, but since I was using earphones with good sound insulation, it didn't bother me too much.

There were no issues with the game's operation, such as stuttering, and the movies ran smoothly, so I was able to enjoy it until the very end.

I was playing with a keyboard and mouse, but since I was still inexperienced and not used to it, I often had trouble reacting to the sudden keystrokes that were required when I needed to dodge.

About the story

To briefly explain the story, the protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy, rescues a woman named Ashley Graham from a certain village.

There are some slight changes from the original, but the basics remain the same.Even those who have never played the original can enjoy it, and those who have played the original can enjoy comparing the two versions as they play.

Characters and graphics

Thanks to significant improvements in graphics, the game screen looks very clean and runs smoothly. The movie is also very carefully crafted, so watching it is a joy in itself.

The main characters have not changed since the remake,The character's facial designs have been changed.

Especially this workAs for the main heroine, Ashley Graham, she had a youthful face before the remake, but her face has been completely changed to one that looks more mature.

As for her outfit, she has changed from a skirt to trousers and black tights, giving her a sexy look.

PersonallyThe Japanese voice actor is Akari KitoThis is also a point that receives high praise.

Also, the enemy character Ramon Salazar's facial design seemed to have changed considerably.

This character was short and had a young-looking face, but in this work, although his height remains the same, his face looks much older.

Thoughts after completing the story

About my clear result

Bio RE:4 Results

I played on standard difficulty and completed the game in 15 hours and 35 minutes, with a rank of B.

The other difficulty levels have not been cleared. As for the professional level, it was unlocked once you cleared it. It's one of the things you can do to improve your game.

There are a lot of enemies

For some reason, it seemed to me that there were more minor enemies in this game than in the original.

There are various types of minions, such as "those with melee weapons," "those who protect their heads with armor," "those who attack from a distance with throwing objects or bows," and "those with one-hit kill attacks."There were many times when a large number of weak enemies appeared at once, surrounding me and forcing me to use healing.

To reduce damage takenYou need to fight in a way that avoids being surrounded by enemies, such as by making good use of the map and using explosives at the right time, and I think it may be difficult for people who have not played this type of game before.

Items drop when you defeat enemies

In the original game, defeating enemies would drop currency into your hand, needed for ammunition and weapon upgrades, etc. This remake continues that system, and there are also benefits to be gained by defeating enemies.

In the Resident Evil series, there are some games where enemies don't drop items even if you defeat them, so in those cases it's more beneficial to run away without defeating them. However, some people may not like this style of running away.

The ability to drop items from enemies gives you a wide range of play styles, allowing you to run away and save ammunition, or defeat them to get money.

Make good use of stealth kills

One of the differences between the original and the remake is the ability to perform stealth kills with a knife from behind an enemy.

Utilizing stealth kills has benefits such as saving ammunition.

This stealth kill works well with a sniper rifle, and by using the two effectively, there are some places where you can make the game much easier.

If you spot an enemy but haven't been spotted by them, it's a good idea to actively try to perform a stealth kill.

Treasure elements and weapon customization

The treasure element that was also present in the original is also present in this game, allowing you to exchange the cash items you obtain for cash, which can then be used to purchase weapons and items, and to strengthen your weapons.

In addition to items that can be exchanged for cash simply by selling them as they are, there are also items that can be exchanged for cash by inserting gems into them to increase the amount they can be exchanged for.

If you collect enough items that can be exchanged for cash, you can easily strengthen your weapons, making the game easier to play, but I think this system will not be well-received by people who find collecting items a hassle.

I explored the map moderately and collected some of the items that could be exchanged for cash, although not all of them.

As a result, weapon upgrades were focused mainly on increasing power, with little room for improvement in areas such as increasing rate of fire.

I don't know how much money you can make by collecting all the cash items, but I think there is a limit to how much money you can make to strengthen your weapons.I think it will be a matter of either specializing in one area or strengthening things in a balanced way.

About the colors and charms of the attaché cases

This game features an attaché case and a charm, but the effects of these vary depending on what you attach to them.

The default briefcase is silver and has the effect of increasing the drop rate of handgun bullets, but in the image below it has been changed to a gold briefcase which increases the drop rate of currency.

Also,The charm increases the chance of receiving a crafting bonus when crafting handgun ammo.

Craft bonuses are rare occurrences when crafting ammunition and allow you to craft more ammunition than usual.

*The gold briefcase and handgun bullet charm were given as pre-order bonuses.

There is a shooting range near where some arms dealers are located, where you can get charms.

The shooting range is quite difficult, and if you are not used to shooting games, it will be difficult to get a high score. There is no limit to the number of attempts, so it is also good to use it to practice shooting.

As for briefcases, you can obtain them by completing side quests given by arms dealers, and by collecting a certain number of the item and exchanging them with the arms dealer, you can obtain briefcases of other colors.

This is one of the elements that will make the game easier, so be sure to check it out when you get it.

Parry and other fighting elements

In this game, you basically fight using guns and grenades, but there are also fighting elements using kicks and knives.

The main fighting elements include kicking when the enemy flinches, knife attacks, and parrying with a knife to block attacks from enemies with melee weapons.

When an enemy flinches, you can use a melee attack to reduce ammo consumption. In the case of a kick, you can also kick away enemies within a certain range.

The advantage of using a knife is that it allows you to deliver a finishing blow to weak enemies with certainty.

As for parry, I wasn't very good at it.

There was no parry element in the Bio series so far, so it felt like it was difficult to use unless you were aware of it. If you can parry well, you can avoid taking damage and you can create an opening to attack the enemy, so if you can use it well, I think it will make the game much easier.

About the figures you can get after clearing the game

Once you have completed the story, you will be able to obtain and appreciate weapons, illustrations, character figurines, and other items that would normally be unobtainable.

With this bonus content, I was able to obtain figures of Ashley and Ada, the heroines of this game.

This figure is incredibly detailed, and the female character I checked out had her face, clothing, and even her back perfectly crafted.

And what's even more amazing about this figure is that it can rock Ashley and Ada's big ones!
You can make the figure sway by moving it left and right and up and down, so it's a must-see for men!

Reviews on the internet

This workIt had been much talked about online even before its release and was highly anticipated, and it has successfully lived up to those expectations, receiving very positive reviews online.

It has received high praise overall, with a faithful reproduction of the story and game system, as well as greatly improved graphics, character designs, and movies.

Some reviews have said that the difficulty level has increased compared to the original, so if you're not good at this type of action game, it might be better to play on a difficulty level below standard.

The game has also received high scores of over 90 on the overseas review site Metacritic..This work is highly acclaimed not only in Japan but also around the world, so I don't think you'll regret buying it.

lastly

My overall assessment of this film is that it is a very good one.

Although it is a remake, it is not exactly the same as the original, but it is not completely different either; there are some moderate changes.

I think this is a game that can be enjoyed by both those who have played the original version before the remake and those who have never played it before.
