In this article, I summarize my impressions after using a gaming laptop for about half a year, aimed at those who are considering purchasing a gaming PC or gaming laptop.
I've only been using it for six months, but so far I don't regret buying it.
The gaming laptop I use
The gaming laptop I purchased is the Galleria brand's "UL7C-R37."

Looking at the CPU and GPU, I think it has average performance. It can be used for games, and since it has 16GB of memory, it can be used comfortably for other purposes as well.
The price when I bought it was about 270,000 yen. I was worried because I could buy a desktop gaming PC with similar specifications for less, but I have to move regularly for work, so I decided to make it a laptop because it would be easier to prepare for moving.
Also, gaming laptops don't seem to have a very good reputation online, so I bought one because I wanted to try it out for myself.
Impressions after actually using it
Although I haven't actually played many games on this gaming laptop, I have played games like Nier Automata, Death Stranding, Resident Evil RE: 4, Shadowverse, and more.
Although I installed games such as APEX and VALORANT, I only checked their operation during shooting practice and have not played them properly.
Although the games were not very demanding, they all ran smoothly. If there was one slight issue, it was that there was a slight lag when the system was under heavy load, possibly due to heat dissipation, which was a concern in terms of performance.
The fan is noisy
Even if the gaming laptop is equipped with a high-performance CPU, there are no major issues with games running, but I was bothered by the loud fan noise.
The fan speed increases while playing games, whether you're using a desktop or laptop, but with a laptop, the computer is closer to you, so the fan noise comes from very close by and feels even louder.
If you play with earphones that fit well, it doesn't bother you much, but if you take them off, it feels noisy. If you don't turn up the game volume, it will be drowned out by the sound of the fan.
The biggest problem with loud fan noise is that the sound may be picked up by voice chat. You may not notice it, but the other person can hear the fan noise all the time, which may interfere with your gameplay.
Easy to carry as a laptop
Since it is a laptop, it is lightweight and easy to carry. It is heavy compared to ultra-lightweight laptops for business use, but since it is a high-performance PC, I think that is unavoidable.
If you basically only play games at home, a desktop would be fine, but if you want to play games while working or staying in a hotel on a trip, a laptop would be better.
If it's too heavy to put in your backpack, you can put it in a carry case together with your clothes. The clothes will act as a cushion, making it easier to carry and less likely to break on impact.
Advantages of a gaming laptop
The biggest advantage is that it is easy to carry
The biggest advantage of a gaming laptop is that it is lightweight and easy to carry.
As mentioned above, you can carry it in a backpack or suitcase and use it on the go.
It's easy to take with you when you move, so you can take it yourself without relying on a moving company. Desktops are large and heavy, so you'll need a car to carry them yourself, but you don't have to worry about that with a laptop.
Peripheral costs are reduced because you don't need to buy a monitor or keyboard.
This is a benefit that may not be overlooked, but with a laptop, you can just use the monitor and keyboard that come with the device, so there is no need to purchase new monitors or keyboards.
Unless you have a specific reason, such as wanting to play games on a larger screen or work using multiple monitors, you don't need to buy them, which helps reduce the cost of peripherals.
Taking this into consideration, the total cost of purchasing a desktop gaming PC with similar specifications, a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and the total cost of purchasing a gaming laptop and mouse may not be that different.
Disadvantages of gaming laptops
The fan is still noisy
As mentioned above, the biggest drawback is the loud fan noise.
If you have a desktop computer, you can place the computer under or to the side of the desk to keep it away from the microphone, but this is more difficult to do with a laptop, and the problem is that the microphone is likely to pick up fan noise.
Another solution other than increasing the distance between the device and the microphone is to use a microphone with noise canceling, but this may not work well, and even if it does work, it may also make it difficult to hear your own voice, so I personally don't recommend it.
If you're playing alone, I don't think it's a big issue as long as you use earphones or headphones.
It is said to have a short lifespan
I've only been using it for half a year, so I haven't experienced this for myself, but I've read online that it has a short lifespan, so that may be a drawback. It's said to last 2-3 years.
The heat dissipation performance is lower than that of a desktop, which may be the reason for the shorter lifespan. Also, if you do not clean it regularly, the lifespan may be shortened even further.
Heat dissipation is very important for a PC, so if you do not regularly clean the inside of the PC, including the fan, and maintain its heat dissipation performance, it may shorten its lifespan even further.
